Join us for an engaging and dynamic conversation at the West Oakland Library as we explore the intersections of Black Cowboys and Black Arts! This event is part of Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD)'s  inaugural Nexus SF/Bay Area Black Arts Week and in partnership with Part2 Gallery. The panel discussion will delve into the rich histories and contemporary connections between Black artistic expression and the legacy of the Oakland Black Cowboy Association. 

Panelists:

  • Muzae Sesay – Visual Artist
  • Devyn Barnes – Multidisciplinary Artist
  • Members of the Oakland Black Cowboy Association
  • Moderator: Demetri Broxton

The conversation will spotlight both artists' unique perspectives on heritage, storytelling, and the ongoing relevance of Black cowboy culture in modern art. Additionally, the event will discuss the 50th Annual Oakland Black Cowboy Parade and Festival, happening on Saturday, October 5 in Oakland offering a rare chance to explore this historical Bay Area tradition.
