The Main Library is back open after a 6-month closure for construction and we'd love to re-introduce you to the unique resources and services available. Join us for a full day of programs, performances, special exhibits, and activities.
The festivities begin with a performance from Unique Derique, blending physical comedy and hambone body percussion, followed by a Lion Dance to usher in good luck and prosperity in our remodeled Community Room. In the afternoon, KALW’s Wonway Posibul leads a DJ workshop, and don't miss a special Zumba class to round out the day.
Elsewhere in the building, you can get cozy in the First Floor Living Room area and learn about several Library feasibility studies in the works. Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Ella Gordon will lead a poetry workshop for all ages in the brand new conference room on the first floor. There's gaming in the TeenZone, crafts in the Children's Room, and the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (MADE) will visit with some retro gaming consoles and an online scavenger hunt in the early afternoon. Plus, join librarian Mana for a tour of what's new at Main.
Main's Special Collections will also showcase their resources on the 2nd floor with some storage treasures from Magazines and Oakland History Center staff will present unique resources and local history artifacts.
We can't wait to celebrate with you!
