Description

Come explore the art of quilting, build basic sewing skills, and create community! Quilting has long been a strongly rooted cultural practice throughout the Black diaspora, offering utility, creativity and actual warmth. In this series we will explore some motifs specific to the African American traditions and learn about the history of quilting for Black quilters in the US. We will work on mini quilts, create quilting art, and find connection by adding our own unique flavor to the process.

Materials and some sewing machines provided. We are focusing on upcycling and reusing materials- so feel free to bring old clothes and materials to use for sewing. If you have a machine you would like to learn to use, please bring it along.

Space is limited. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate, please register only if you can attend all six sessions.
