Spring Craft: Paper Flower & Vase Project

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Montclair Branch

Description

NOTE: FIRST COME FIRST SERVED -- come early to secure a spot!

About the Event:

Give a creative new life to old and unused books by making them into a vase and flower centerpiece!

Event Leader Jieyingwu (Jenny) Dang will show participants how to fold a book into a vase shape as well as how to make a flower from a book page and some tape and paper clips. The initial structure (the bare bones) of the craft will take about an hour to complete, and then participants can continue to work on the craft at the library if desired. Participants will leave with the knowledge to complete the craft at home at their own pace.

About the Event Lead:

Instructor Jenny Dang, native to Oakland, enjoys both being creative and creating. Experienced in teaching both individuals and groups, she has engaged with art of many forms from early in life, from drawing and music to creating hats, blankets, and amigurumi items for friends with crochet.

While working for Oakland Public Libraries, Jenny created the display of a flower bouquet out of a withdrawn library book, pictured above. The library received so much enthusiasm from patrons regarding the display, and interest in a workshop, that Jenny agreed to share this craft with our community!

Supplies will be available - however, if you have a book of over 120 pages that you'd like to re-purpose, feel free to bring your own!

Audience: Adults and Teens welcome.
