Why would I pick this book to have with me if stuck on desert island? The subtitle says it all! This is a book about writing your way through dark times, and inventing worlds and characters that help you imagine better futures--and maybe even bring them into being. It's part advice on the writer's craft, part memoir, part manifesto for writers--or really any humans--on the importance of creativity as an act of hope and resistance. Fierce, funny, compassionate--I'd pair it with her most recent novel, and a notebook and pen. --Pamela
